Our Mission, Vision and Values

Mission

The Bronze Smiths is a nonprofit organization dedicated to elevating past, present and future metal artists from underrepresented communities by providing educational opportunities and pathways to economic self-sufficiency.  We will uplift all people by uplifting those most marginalized based on ‘race’ and economic status first.

Our activities include, but are not limited to, introducing youth to the craft of metalsmithing infused with transferable S.T.E.A.M. and entrepreneurial skills, developing young artist through access to vocational training, supporting a network of professional and emerging metal artists while advocating increased diversity in the industry and promoting anti-racism practices, and educating the community at large through lectures and workshops paying homage to the roots of the craft. Our primary focus is on supporting metal artists of the African Diaspora.

Wherein anti-racism is defined as “the practice of identifying, challenging, and changing the values, structures and behaviors that perpetuate systemic racism” (Ontario Anti-Racism Secretariat). It’s a daily practice, an act of redistribution of resources, and starts by uplifting the most marginalized.
